Russian spies continue their mission against the United States. In "Stealing Thunder", I have a series of 'sleeper agents' who are activated by a rogue Russian master spy. Real Russian agents have been working for the better part of a decade and were recently rounded up after the real Russian leader went to the White House for a meeting.
Check out the documents at Smoking Gun about the FBI Investigation "FBI Busts Russian Spies".

Stealing Thunder Plot Continue: Chinese Naval Aggression |

My plot in "Stealing Thunder" - Communist Chinese agression in naval areas in the South China Sea - continues to unfold and will grow even greater in the coming years, creating a shift of Power in the future in the Pacific Rim. This shift is critical and will impact our solid allies like South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Australia and more.
The commander of US forces in the Pacific has warned that China’s military is more aggressively asserting its territorial claims in regional waters.
Admiral Robert Willard told the Financial Times: “There has been an assertiveness that has been growing over time, particularly in the South China Sea and in the East China Sea.”
He said China’s extensive claims to islands and waters in the region were “generating increasing concern broadly across the region and require address”.
The admiral’s remarks follow complaints by Japan in recent weeks about aggressive behaviour from a Chinese coastguard vessel in contested waters and a Chinese military helicopter in international waters. |

China's Growing Threat to American Interests |

China is implementing a massive arms buildup to challenge the United States on the High Seas. This is right in line with my plot for "Stealing Thunder".
The Defense Department's annual assessment, released Monday, says Beijing is upgrading its hefty arsenal of land-based missiles, modernizing its nuclear forces and expanding its fleet of attack submarines.
The effort comes as China has suspended military-to-military talks with the U.S., which could reassure the U.S. about the motives behind Beijing's military buildup.
U.S.-China relations have been particularly strained in recent months, as China rejected the results of an investigation blaming North Korea for the sinking of a South Korean warship. China's military buildup also is seen as a threat to the U.S. ability to defend Taiwan.
China's Military Buildup May Threaten U.S. Western Pacific Territories
China is extending its military advantage over Taiwan and increasingly looking beyond, building up a force with power to strike in Asia as far afield as the US territory of Guam, the Pentagon said.
In an annual report to Congress, the US Defense Department said Monday that China was ramping up investment in an array of areas including nuclear weapons, long-range missiles, submarines, aircraft carriers and cyber warfare.

Stealing Thunder Plot: China vs Japan Territorial Disputes |

China and Japan are two regional powers who will butt heads more often in the near future, over territory, natural resources, influence and more. That's one plot point in my novel "Stealing Thunder", which deals with a plot to increase Communist Chinese influence over the Western Pacific.
My plot focuses on the Senkaku Islands, under dispute between China and Japan, with vast natural gas reserves - a key element in today's quest for energy independence.
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan said on Tuesday it would investigate the sighting of several Chinese submarines and warships last week in the high seas near the southern island of Okinawa, where U.S. bases are concentrated in Japan.
Two submarines and eight vessels were spotted on Saturday about 140 km (90 miles) southwest of Okinawa, the first time Japan has confirmed the presence of Chinese submarines and such a large number of vessels in the area, defence ministry officials said.
"Such a situation has not happened before and we will investigate this, including whether (China has) any intentions against our country," Japanese Defence Minister Toshimi Kitazawa told reporters. |
